The iPhone is still the number one in the U.S. market

Those who doubted the potential of the iPhone as the undisputed leader of the smartphone in the U.S., are going to be disappointed about it, since the iPhone has once again proved to be the sales leader again in the United States. This is demonstrated by a study by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, confirming that iOS was the undisputed leader of sales in the last quarter of 2012.

According to the study, the iPhone took 51.2% of the market, with 19% of the total number of people who changed their Android device for iOS. Considering that in 2011 Apple achieved 44.9% market penetration of smartphones and this 2012 is made with 51.2%, is still the undisputed leader in this type of smartphone.

Although Android does not lose in any case a large percentage of the market (going from 44.8% to 44.2%), it is clear that loses strength in the U.S. market.

Windows Phone with only 2.6% of the sales of smartphones, ranked distant third in sales. Only time will tell if Apple continues to not only dominate, but also increased its presence in the U.S. market and even worldwide.
